Business and Service Continuity / Disaster Recovery
Disasters are a reality of the modern world and it is a fact that they do happen from time to time. In this age of global operations across different time zones and 24x7 economies, it is widely agreed that organisations cannot afford any downtime. Organisations experience disruptions to their business from time to time due to unexpected events hence the need to put in place plans and processes to deal with such occurrences. Disaster Recovery is a subset of Business Continuity, dealing with the recovery of IT assets after a disruptive event. A disaster recovery plan becomes a critical part of the business infrastructure as it focuses on the recovery of any IT related infrastructure.
Developing a disaster recovery plan is an essential activity for the well being of a company and the effort required must not be underestimated as it can be a very complicated process. We work with leading organisations to draw a disaster recovery plan for their businesses focussing on controls aimed at correcting or restoring the system after disaster or event. Our consultants work with organisations to develop the process used to recover access to their software, data and/or hardware that are needed to resume the performance of normal, critical business functions after the event of either a natural disaster or a disaster caused by humans. These all make up the Disaster Recovery Plan (DRP) which is a live document that needs to be revisited at regular intervals.
We ensure that Disaster Recovery plans are well practiced so that the key players are familiar with the specific actions they will need to take should a disaster occur. We also put in place a process for testing the plan at regular intervals. Companies must consider all these facets of their organization as well as update and practice their plan if they want to maximize their recovery after a disaster.
